The dossier is said to list vehicles and safe houses used in Glasgow, Monklands and Paisley where children were hidden before being taken to sex parties.

The dossier was written by James Gallogley, a convicted child-abuser who died in Peterhead prison in 1999.

Wheen refers to a lunch with Crowley at the Eiffel Tower restaurant; this was when Driberg became Crowley's heir.

Driberg was a close friend of Guy Burgess and visited Moscow with him.

He was a supporter of Stalin and throughout his time in the Commons and later the Lords there were persistent rumours that he was a Soviet agent.

It is claimed it was during one visit to Moscow that the KGB used his habit of picking up men in public lavatories - known as cottaging - to trap him.

Allegedly he attempted to seduce a KGB man in the urinals behind the Metropole Hotel.

Driberg had a lucky escape when caught with a Norwegian sailor in an air raid shelter in Edinburgh. Fortunately the policeman was an avid reader of the William Hickey column and let him off. In fact the policeman and Tom Driberg became friends and exchanged letters...

In 1949 the Labour Party conference elected him to the National Executive Committee, and he was re-elected every year from 1950 to 1972...

Tom Driberg was chair of the Labour Party in 1957-58.

In 1965 he was appointed as a Privy Counsellor.

He had been an MP for thirty years when he retired in February 1974.

In 1975 he was made a life peer and became Lord Bradwell.

Reggie Kray was a UK gangster and he was sexually attracted to boys.

In 1969, he was jailed for murder.

Reportedly, prison officers usually turned a blind eye to Kray's affairs.

Reggie Kray's twin brother was Ronnie Kray, who was also a gangster and lover of boys.

Reggie came to call Brad his 'adopted son'.

3. This happened after Brad's father had left home.

4. Brad became Reggie Kray's most frequent visitor.

5. When Reggie was transferred to Lewes prison, in East Sussex, Brad travelled the 600 miles from his home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to see him.

6. In 1991, Brad - then aged 12 - changed his name to Kray.

The 57-year-old Kray signed a legal document declaring Brad to be his adopted son.

7. Brad also visited Ronnie Kray, a paranoid schizophrenic, in Broadmoor mental hospital.

8. Brad died some years ago, while still very young.

9. The Krays were jailed for life for murder in 1969.

Ronnie died in 1995 and Reggie died in 2001.

The Chief Inspector of Prisons, General Sir David Ramsbotham, "has told friends he was recently horrified to discover that a juvenile offender, who had been the victim of a paedophile, was being held in the same unit of Cardiff prison as the man who abused him.

Stephen Shaw, director of the Prison Reform Trust, said: "There is a danger that we will begin to see in prisons a mirror image of the corruption and abuse that has been found in care homes."
