NEW YOUTUBE DESIGN; SELL GOOGLE?

YouTube has redesigned its website.

70% of users do not like the changes, according to one poll (YouTube Redesign Targets Sharing, But Misses Mark)

Hours after YouTube put out a video explaining the changes, 6,703 members had clicked the "dislike" button.

2,280 clicked "like" (presumably employees of YouTube?).

"The layout is a mess! Why can't I remove vids which I've already watched?" wrote one member.

Others wrote "R.I.P. Youtube" and "Change it back".

The new design promotes:

1. Commercial entertainment (soft porn)

2. Celebrities (rich friends of Israel)

3. TV channels (propaganda).

So, we'll be seeing more Madonna, Obama, violence, soft porn...

YouTube has been attracting over 3 billion video views per day.

Will the more 'active' consumers desert when they discover it almost impossible to find their favourite type of non-commercial videos, when using 'search'.

YouTube is becoming more like a down-market TV channel of the sort that is watched only by 'passive' viewers.

We get the impression that more and more people are switching off the internet sites that are crammed with adverts and difficult to navigate.

Will the advertisers desert when they discover that most people these days have no money to buy their products.

Perhaps all the adverts will be for gold watches and luxury yachts.

We suspect that YouTube will survive, for a time.

But it does appear to be going the way of so many American companies (American Airlines, Enron, Readers' Digest...)

American corporations are useless at design; useless at listening to the customers; and useless at ethics.

We'll probably be hacked.

DEATH OF THE INTERNET?

YouTube is now mainly commercial junk. The "YouTube HomePage does not promote Individual Videos." (Is The YouTube SEO Guy Smoking Crack?)

You try to watch a YouTube video which is 'non-commercial' and find that it buffers and buffers and buffers.

You switch to a YouTube video that is 'commercial' and find that it plays beautifully.

You Google 'CIA, Tunisia, voltairenet' and on the first page you find no mention of voltairenet's article on the CIA's role in the Tunisia coup.

You Google 'Tunisia revolt' and you are unlikely to find any mention of Soros or the CIA.

The CIA and its friends appear to be constructing a two tier internet.

Commercial stuff is in the top tier.

The rest is in the bottom tier and will be difficult to find and slow to upload.

At PCPRO, on 21 January 2011, the question is asked: Is the internet as we know it dead?

The answer involves:

"Websites and services that are willing to pay" being "thrust into the 'fast lane'".

"Those that don't" being "left fighting for scraps of bandwidth or even blocked outright."

According to Andrew Heaney, executive director of strategy and regulation at TalkTalk, Britain’s second biggest ISP:

"We have a .... differentiated network at all levels, with huge levels of widespread discrimination of traffic types..."

( Zen Internet doesn’t employ any traffic shaping across their network, and Zen has won the PC Pro Best Broadband ISP award for the past 7 years - Zen Internet)

Streaming video is the largest single category of internet traffic.

"Broadcasters willing to pay will be put into the 'fast lane'; those who don't will be left to fight their way through the regular internet traffic jams."

GOODBYE GOOGLE & YOUTUBE!

Website for this image

The much hated Google deserves to go bust.

Users visiting YouTube today will see a message telling them they MUST link their YouTube account with their Google account.

Here are typical comments from the public (YouTube wants you to link your Google account The Web Services ...):

1. "This is the most idiotic thing Google/YouTube ever did.

"Now, there are thousands of us that cannot access our YouTube accounts anymore.

"This is an absolute train wreck...

"Time for millions of users to leave google and go to another video hosting service like blip.tv

"Many of us are fed up with Google's privacy invasion and data mining, and have gone to Startpage Search Engine

"See you in Hell Google/YouTube."

2. "What a idiocy and arrogance!

"They do not allow direct access to our youtube accounts?!?

"This is playing with users patience...

"I hate it when someone else decides what is better for me...

"Google/youtube it is time to say goodbye."

3. "I am looking for an alternative.

"This is insulting to me... my account is years old.

"There is no need for Google to know what I do on YouTube aside from tracking my every move.

"Screw them."

~~

"The account linking blip comes in the wake of the site's redesigned user homepage, and coincides with the movement to boycott YouTube today in protest of the website's increasing commercialization." (Google Forces YouTube Account Linking‎)

YouTube, Steve Chen and a blackout.

Image from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Internet_map_1024.jpg Matt Britt

Why is YOUTUBE experiencing turbulence?

Reportedly, some of its best brains have left and some of its users are angry.

YouTube fans are fed up with the new design of YouTube, which comes into force on 15 July 2009..

There is a plan by disgruntled YouTube users for a YouTube "blackout" on July 14.

Steve Chen co-founded YouTube.

Chen has left his post as YouTube's chief technology officer.

He left last year but we're only hearing about it now.

Reportedly, YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley will soon be gone from YouTube as well.

Reportedly, Google is terrified about a brain drain.

Will Chen and friends go to work for a YouTube rival?

Chen is still working for Google.

Nobody has yet come up with a service to rival either YouTube or Google in terms of popularity.

BETA will ruin YouTube?

.

YouTube, owned by Google, seems to be upsetting its fans by introducing a new design called BETA.

Some people are predicting that YouTube will go the same way as myspace, which has reportedly been losing friends.

"The exact same thing that's killing myspace thus making facebook more popular." - YouTube Blog

There are a growing number of rivals to YouTube, most of them pretty down-market, commercial and horrid.

And YouTube seems to be trying to become more like its horrid rivals.
http://www.metatube.net/

Imagine if some clever folks in India, or Washington state, or Cambridge, eventually come up with something as good YouTube.

One can imagine a gradual switch away from YouTube.

After all, Google, the owner of YouTube, has made enemies.

And, like General Motors, Google seems to care more about keeping in with governments rather than customers.

Google refuses to have adverts on certain YouTube pages.

BtoB Magazine had an article on June 5th 2009 entitled "Declining revenue has publishers rethinking Google AdSense."

AdSense is The (Weak) Elephant in the Room

"Google will (quite rightly) sue publishers who scam the system. But now publishers are suing back, and winning. This is ugly stuff.

"In another murky corner of the Internet are '
made for AdSense' sites that scrape other publishers to generate ad clicks. This is also considered click fraud...

"Let's jump to Google's Q1 2009 results....

"Revenue from Google's partner sites, also known as network revenue or AdSense revenue, fell 3% to $1.64 billion.

"According to the numbers, not all is well with AdSense."

And how long before there is a big switch away from YouTube?

YouTube will lose support?

All existing channels will change over to a totally horrid and useless new design on July 15 2009.

"Goodbye youtube, hello screwtube. I hate the new channel look; it's shit."

Why YouTube may lose $470 million this year

According to a Credit Suisse analyst, YouTube will lose $470 million in 2009 because it sells advertising on less than 3 % of its web pages.

'Weakness' at YouTube led the analyst to cut his 2009 profit estimate for Google to $4.68 a share from $4.83. (YouTube set to lose $470M; most ad spots going unsold )

In 2006, Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion.

YouTube has a giant audience because of its home made videos and clips from films and TV shows.

Arash Amel, analyst for researcher Screen Digest, estimates that YouTube attracts 89.5 million visitors per month.

Amel estimates that, in 2008, YouTube generated $114 million in U.S. revenue but had no gross profit.

Amel reckons that only 3 to 4 percent of the videos on YouTube carry advertising. (Online Video Race.)

This is Google's problem!

Perceptive YouTube users know that the adverts are on the wrong videos.

You look at excellent and popular videos about Monet or Mauritius or Mahler, and the chances are they will have no adverts.

A video on Mahler could well attract adverts for posh cars or fine wines or expensive holidays.

You come across a video which has had few views, and mysteriously it has adverts.

The same applies to blogs and other media sites.

The Google adverts are often on the wrong sites.

Google AdSense does not seem to want adverts on the more enlightened and intelligent web pages.

The Financial Times, unlike many of its competitors, has been doing well because it has some intelligent content.
