LUNCH WITH THE FT - AYMAN AL ZAWAHIRI

Ayman al-Zawahiri

We meet at a nice kosher restaurant, in the city of Islamabad.

The Chateau Margaux arrives and we are soon tucking in to steaming bowls of chicken soup.

My guest is 'an Egyptian' called Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Al-Zawahiri was born into an upper middle class family in a posh suburb of Cairo, called Maadi.

I ask him about his taste in food.

"You know it used to be easy to get my kind of food in Cairo," he says.

"Jewish families, such as Suares and Naggar, owned many of the banks, bus companies, and department stores in Egypt, and they liked good food."

What about al-Zawahiri's parents?

"In 1960, my father, Rabi al-Zawahiri, moved from Heliopolis to Maadi.

"There was a thriving synagogue in our neighbourhood.

"My parents belonged to two of the top families in Egypt."

Nasser, former CIA asset.

I ask al-Zawahiri about Nasser.

"I was still at school when Nasser was president of Egypt," he says.

"Nasser became a strong nationalist and therefore not popular with Israel, the US or UK.

"I was in the Muslim Brotherhood.

"Nasser said that the Muslim Brotherhood was a tool of the British.

"Eventually, the CIA supported the Muslim Brotherhood against Nasser."

I asked him about Israel's attitude.

"Israel always supports the Islamists against the nationalists," he replied.

Our Matzo Brei with Fresh Chives arrived, and another bottle of wine was ordered.

And what about President Sadat?

"Sadat and his vice president Hosni Mubarak were friends of the CIA.

"Mubarak received money from a weapons delivery company called EATSCO, a CIA front company.

"Sadat fell out with Mubarak over EATSCO."

I pointed out that he, al-Zawahiri, was accused of being part of the Jihad group which allegedly assassinated Sadat.

"I got a short jail sentence, beginning in 1982," he said.

In 1986 al-Zawahiri moved to Pakistan.

I asked him about his help for the Mujahideen.

"I was helped by the CIA to get arms, training and money for the Mujahideen," he explained.

I wondered if the CIA knew about his activities in Egypt.

"Indeed yes. But the CIA gave us new identities and new passports.'

What about Osama bin Laden?

Al Zawahiri was once Osama's doctor.

"Osama, and his brother Salem, worked for the CIA", explains al Zawahiri.

"Now I am the big boss of al Qaeda", he says, looking proud.

I inquired about al-Zawahiri's brother Muhammad.

"Muhammad helped the CIA in Bosnia and Croatia," he says.

The man from MI6, Ayatollah Khomeini.

I told him I was interested in his attitude to Iran.

Zawahiri had allegedly worked with the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of al-Qaeda.

"I studied the CIA's 1979 Islamic Revolution," says al-Zawahiri.

"Iran collaborated with America in its invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq."

I pointed out that there are those in Iran who say that al-Qaeda is a tool of the CIA.

"It's a joke, isn't it," he says. "Both sides working for Washington."

"In a 2008 interview I attacked Shite Iran for blaming the 9/11 attacks on Israel, and thus discrediting al-Qaeda."

Al Zawahiri continues: "The bin Ladens are great friends of the USA.

"They have huge investments there.

"I got a warm welcome in America.

"In 1993, I traveled to the United States, and met many people in California.

"I've also had trips to Europe, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong."

"In 1996, I was helping the CIA in Chechnya."

According to January 2000 U.S. Congressional testimony, al-Zawahiri was granted U.S. residence by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

I asked about the 1997 attack at Luxor in Egypt, attacks blamed on al Zawahiri.

Six men dressed in police uniforms killed 58 foreign tourists.

"The Luxor attacks helped the tourist trade - in Israel", he responded, supressing a smile.

In 1998 there were truck bomb explosions at the United States embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

"These attacks brought Osama bin Laden, and me, to international attention."

In 2000, Zawahiri moved to Afghanistan.

In 2007, Al-Zawahiri directed the Lal Masjid siege in Pakistan.

Back in 1956, French prime minister Guy Mollet, UK prime minister Anthony Eden and Israeli leader David Ben-Gurion met in secret and agreed to make a joint attack on Egypt.

On 29th October 1956, the Israeli Army invaded Egypt.

Two days later the British and French bombed Egyptian airfields. British and French troops landed at Port Said at the northern end of the Suez Canal on 5th November.

Bedouin gunmen attacked and robbed a tourist minivan in St Catherine, in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

The minivan contained Americans and other nationalities.

Two American women were driven off into the mountains and held captive for around six hours.

A few days earlier, 25 Chinese factory workers were kidnapped from a bus in Sinai.

Around the same time, a soccer riot in the Sinai left about 70 people dead.

ISRAEL'S PLANS FOR EGYPT

In Egypt, some Islamist candidates and religious scholars want to:

1. Destroy ancient monuments - seen as a form of idol worship

2. Ban mixed sex beaches

3. Ban bikinis

4. Ban alcohol

5. Ban gambling

The Islamists are expected to win two thirds of the seats in the Egyptian parliament.

Nader Bakkar, spokesman for the Salafist (Islamist) party says:

"We do want to see a type of Halal tourism ... such as segregation of beaches."



Not surprisingly, Egypt's economic woes mount

AFP reports:

"The fall of foreign currency reserves and the decline in tourism seriously complicates the economic situation," says Samer Suleiman, economics professor at the American University of Cairo.

"The large scores of Islamist parties in the first phase of elections will make investors nervous," he added.

The Muslim Brotherhood party and the fundamentalist Al-Nur (Salafi) party have won two thirds of the votes so far.

Both are committed to having sharia law.


Foreign investments have fallen from $6.8 billion in 2010 to $2.2 billion this year.

Foreign reserves have fallen from $36 billion at the beginning of the year to $20 billion.

By February, they are expected to fall to $15 billion, a level at which it will be difficult to pay for imports such as wheat, analysts say.

Egypt is the world's biggest wheat importer.

The army has recently lent the central bank $1 billion to help shore up its finances.

Inflation has reached 9.1%.

On 10 December 2011, The Economist reports on the Islamists everywhere on the rise:

1. In the first round of voting in Egypt:

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party has won 46% of the seats with 37% of the (party-list) vote.

The Salafist Party of Light, ('Nour' - puritanical extremist Wahhabi) has won 21% of the seats with 24% of the (party-list) vote.

The biggest secular (non religious) party got 10% of the seats.

Mubarak's party was banned.

The turnout was around 59%

2. Why vote for the Muslim Brotherhood?

They give financial help to widows.

They supply water buffaloes on easy repayment plans to landless peasants.

3. Why vote for the Salafists?

They distribute cut-price food.

They appear on Saudi-funded satellite TV channels.

Some Mubarak supporters voted for the Salafists, to frustrate the Muslim Brotherhood.

A weakened Egypt now provides Israel with a chance to grab the Sinai. Syria had better look out.

4. The Muslim Brotherhood's 80-page manifesto mentions neither Israel nor Palestine.

5. The Salafists want a 'restricted' democracy.

They want to ban alcohol, adopt the veil and segregate the sexes in public.

The Christian Science Moniter quoted Thai military officials and unnamed Western diplomats:

Some were caught on camera and seen by reporters.



"You can’t claim to be a peaceful political movement and have an arsenal of weapons out the back if needed. You can’t have it both ways," said a Western diplomat.

Given the USA's track-record of using death squads to divide and weaken countries so as to maintain US domination, US involvement in the terrorism in Kyrgyzstan cannot be ruled out.



One effective way of maintaining a grip on Central Asian countries would be to increase ethnic tensions.



In August 6th 2008, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that a US arms cache had been found in a house in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, which was being rented by two American citizens.

A video was aired by Al Jazeera showing demonstrators being fired upon.



The video was edited to convince the viewer that anti-Gaddafi demonstrators were being murdered by the security forces.



However, the unedited version of the video clearly shows pro-Gaddafi demonstrators with Green flags being fired upon by unknown snipers.

Syria 2011



The people of Syria have been hit by death squads and snipers.

They were in the country 'on a hunting holiday' - with weapons in the back of their vehicle.

On 11 September 2011, a deadly riot broke out in eastern Indonesia.

Seven people died and scores of homes and vehicles were damaged after a rumour was spread by Twitter and Facebook that a Muslim had been captured and tortured to death by Christians.

Zvi Mazel was Israel’s ambassador to Cairo between 1996 and 2001.

According to Mazel:

1. There is now so much violence on the streets of Egypt that Egyptian militias have purchased weapons to protect their neighbourhoods.

2. Looting of stores is prevalent in all the large cities and no one is even trying to control the anarchy.

3. "From the moment the army seized power they've been weak and have let the street dictate their conduct...

"These generals do not know how to run a state.

2. Various CIA mercenaries and NATO special forces reportedly stirred things up by killing a lot of Tunisians.

4. And Tunisian generals, 'working for the CIA', forced out Ben Ali.

On 24 August 2011, we learn that Tunisia's economy "has suffered increasingly this summer".



Tunisian voters do not believe that the CIA-MOSSAD-NATO will give up its grip on Tunisia.



Less than 15% of Tunisia's eligible voters have registered to vote in the election due in October 2011.



Tunisia's Revolution Struggles‎



According to a new poll, by the Applied Social Sciences Forum, optimism amongst Tunisians fell from 32% in April 2011 to 24% in August 2011.



The town of Sidi Bouzid, the birthplace of the uprising, recorded the highest levels of distrust in the progress of Tunisia’s revolution at 62.1%.

In August 2011, European Union Ambassador Marc Franco expressed concern over the Egyptian economy, which he said is in an 'alarming' state.



He praised the former regime of Mubarak for liberalizing the economy and encouraging investment.

ISRAEL TO INVADE EGYPT?

One aim of the 'CIA-MOSSAD-NATO toppling of Mubarak' may be to allow Israel to retake the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt.



Of course, Israel might need a false flag terror attack to justify such an invasion of the Sinai.



On 18th August 2011 we read of 7 dead and dozens injured as 'terror squads' launch 3 attacks in Israel near the border with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

According to officials, the attacks targeted a passenger bus, a military patrol and a private car.



There have been conflicting reports.



Rescue services said five people were injured in the bus attack, and a further five injured in a nearby attack on a car.



Military sources say people were killed.







There have been reports of 'growing lawlessness' in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.



"Al Qaeda-inspired militants" have been increasingly active in Sinai.



Reportedly there have been bombings on a pipeline carrying natural gas to Israel and Jordan.



Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak says: 'The incident underscores the weak Egyptian hold on Sinai and the broadening of the activities of terrorists. The real source of the terror is in Gaza, and we will act against them with full force and determination.'



Bedouins in Sinai allegedly cooperate with anti-Israel militants in Gaza.



There have been previous reports of the Bedouins in Gaza secretly working for the Israelis.



The driver of the bus in the first incident said he had seen Egyptian soldiers open fire.



Israeli military spokesman Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai said he was not aware of any Egyptian military involvement.

South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda has denied that the gunmen fired from Egypt.

Egyptian security sources have ruled out Israeli claims that the attackers came from their territory.



Initially, Israeli security sources said that the gunfire appeared to come from Egypt.



Israeli military spokeswoman Avital Leibovitch now says that "everything took place in Israeli territory."

There are growing trade deficits in the USA and in parts of Europe.

China is booming; the USA and UK are not.

There is growing debt, both government debt and personal debt, in the USA and parts of Europe.

Interest rates are being kept low in the USA and UK. Monetery policy is loose. It is still too easy for certain people to borrow money.

The financial sector in the USA and UK has not shrunk.

The Bank of International Settlements, based in Basel, points out in its recent report that none of the problems that led to the financial crisis has been resolved.

In the USA and UK, economic power lies with the big global companies.

These big global companies are happy to make money in Asia, Africa and South America.

These big global companies have no particular loyalty to the ordinary folks in the USA and UK.

George Soros has been funding the drafting a of a new constitution for Egypt.

"The end game in Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Thailand, Myanmar, and eventually China and Russia (is) to form a homogeneous, centrally controlled, one world government where megalomaniacs arbitrarily contrive the rules by which the rest of humanity is made to live."

What is happening in Egypt's Sinai:

In June 2011, unknown gunmen attacked a police checkpoint. (2 Egyptian policemen killed in Sinai )

In June 2011, two Egyptian soldiers were shot dead by masked gunmen in a main street of el-Arish, the chief city of the region.

Hospitals are crowded with the victims of violence.

Bedouin tribesmen recently cut the road to Sharm el-Sheikh.



Women have been disappearing.

Traders carry guns.

Egypt's prime minister, Essam Sharaf, recently visited el-Arish.

Hours after he left, a bomb blew up a pipeline that supplies gas to Jordan.

"They may yet attack South Sinai's oil installations and tourist resorts."

The governor blames Islamic extremists for some of the trouble.

Israel grabbed the Sinai in 1967, but handed it back in 1982. Israel would like the Sinai to be part Israel.

How long before Israel grabs the Sinai from Egypt?

According to The Economist, there could be a big Middle East war during 2011.

Egyptian state TV reported 'dangerous explosions continuing from one spot to another' in the main source of gas supplying pipeline in El Arish.

The attackers used explosives to blow up the 240km- long pipeline in the town of Lihfen in northern Sinai near the Gaza Strip and the army shut down the gas supplies to Israel and Jordan, Egyptian officials said.

"It's big terrorist operation," the state-tv quoted an official as saying, who blamed the attack on "foreign elements."

The attack on the pipeline came after Israel, which receives 40 per cent of its gas demand from Egypt, expressed concern that the supplies could be threatened if a new regime takes over in Cairo...


The SITE intelligence group, which monitors Al-Qaeda and other Islamist websites, said some groups had been urging Islamic militants to attack the pipeline to Israel while the security situation in Egypt is in flux.

Egypt is a modest gas exporter, using pipelines to export gas to Israel and also to Jordan and other regional states.

Problems in the Sinai, problems that raise concerns in Israel about Israel's security, and which can be blamed on Islamic terrorists, would be very helpful to JUSTIFY some sort of military intervention.

We assume that is one of Israel's goals - to occupy the Sinai.

Turns out, the Israeli section was not hit.

Subsequent reports said the attack struck a part of the pipeline carrying gas to Jordan.

The Israeli section was not hit, but gas flow was interrupted to prevent damage.

In his Cairo speech, Obama said: "I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world."

The new beginning would seem to involve the USA destroying the last remaining parts of the Moslem world that are prosperous and at peace.
