INFLUENCED BY ADVERTS?

Edward Bernays (right), the father of modern advertising. (Website for this image)

The advertisers know what images we like.

What men look at and the order in which they look at these areas of interest.

What women look at first

The above is an advert.

Women - and not men - looked at the model's breasts first.

The numbers indicate the order in which each gender viewed areas of interest.

How men and women really do look at things in a different light ... (http://www.dailymail.co.uk)

Look at the watch.

Edward Bernays, in Propaganda (1928), argued that the manipulation of public opinion was a necessary part of democracy:

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society.

"Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...

"We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of." (Edward Bernays - Wikipedia)

"Edward Bernays' most extreme political propaganda activities were said to be conducted on behalf of the multinational corporation United Fruit Company (today's Chiquita Brand International) and the U.S. government - to facilitate the successful overthrow (see Operation PBSUCCESS) of the democratically elected president of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz Guzman.

"Bernays' propaganda (documented in the BBC documentary, The Century of the Self), branding Arbenz as communist, was published in major U.S. media.

"According to a book review by John Stauber and Sheldon Rampton of Larry Tye's biography, The Father of Spin: Edward L. Bernays & The Birth of PR, 'the term 'banana republic' originated in reference to United Fruit's domination of corrupt governments in Guatemala and other Central American countries.

"The company brutally exploited virtual slave labor in order to produce cheap bananas for the lucrative U.S. market." (Edward Bernays - Wikipedia)

"If you are watching this message, it is because I was assassinated by President Alvaro Colom."

Rosenberg was shot to death on 10 May 2009.

In a Youtube video, right-wing lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg says:

"If you are watching this message, it is because I was assassinated by President Alvaro Colom."

President Colom of Guatemala.

In 2007, Alvaro Colom became Guatemala's first left-leaning president in 53 years.

In 1954, leftist leader since Jacobo Arbenz was thrown out of office by a CIA-orchestrated coup.

Colom has said that he wants to reduce crime by tackling poverty[2].

In the 2007 election he beat beat General Otto Perez Molina, the former head of army intelligence.

There is a suspicion that right wing extremists, linked to the generals, drugs barons and big business, may be involved in a plot against Colom.

Reportedly, on 10 may, 2009, Rodrigo Rosenberg was shot to death by unidentified assailants while riding his bicycle.

Reportedly, the CIA has a long history of carrying out dirty tricks in Guatemala.

A comment on the Youtube video states:

"The groups that hold the power in Guatemala (DRUG CARTELS, MILITARY, CACIF - committee of commercial, industrial and financial associations- RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS) are using this to sabotage the civil, social-democrat government of Mr. Colom.

"This man, Rosenberg, was a rightwing extremist lawyer member of CACIF!"

Colom has tried to prosecute former military officers linked to massacres during the country's 1960-1996 civil war.

He has also clamped down on drug cartels, with dozens of arrests.

According to the New York Times (C.I.A. Plotted Killing of 58 In Guatemala - The New York Times ):

The CIA "in the early 1950's, drew up a 'disposal list' of at least 58 key leaders, and it trained assassins to kill them..."

The CIA's "Operation Success, toppled the freely elected President of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, and installed the first of a series of right-wing leaders friendly to the United States."
