"If you are watching this message, it is because I was assassinated by President Alvaro Colom."

Rosenberg was shot to death on 10 May 2009.

In a Youtube video, right-wing lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg says:

"If you are watching this message, it is because I was assassinated by President Alvaro Colom."

President Colom of Guatemala.

In 2007, Alvaro Colom became Guatemala's first left-leaning president in 53 years.

In 1954, leftist leader since Jacobo Arbenz was thrown out of office by a CIA-orchestrated coup.

Colom has said that he wants to reduce crime by tackling poverty[2].

In the 2007 election he beat beat General Otto Perez Molina, the former head of army intelligence.

There is a suspicion that right wing extremists, linked to the generals, drugs barons and big business, may be involved in a plot against Colom.

Reportedly, on 10 may, 2009, Rodrigo Rosenberg was shot to death by unidentified assailants while riding his bicycle.

Reportedly, the CIA has a long history of carrying out dirty tricks in Guatemala.

A comment on the Youtube video states:

"The groups that hold the power in Guatemala (DRUG CARTELS, MILITARY, CACIF - committee of commercial, industrial and financial associations- RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS) are using this to sabotage the civil, social-democrat government of Mr. Colom.

"This man, Rosenberg, was a rightwing extremist lawyer member of CACIF!"

Colom has tried to prosecute former military officers linked to massacres during the country's 1960-1996 civil war.

He has also clamped down on drug cartels, with dozens of arrests.

According to the New York Times (C.I.A. Plotted Killing of 58 In Guatemala - The New York Times ):

The CIA "in the early 1950's, drew up a 'disposal list' of at least 58 key leaders, and it trained assassins to kill them..."

The CIA's "Operation Success, toppled the freely elected President of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, and installed the first of a series of right-wing leaders friendly to the United States."
