US COUP IN MALDIVES?

Maldives

Both the USA and China take an interest in the Maldives.

On 7 February 2012, there was a coup in the Maldives.

President Mohammed Nasheed was replaced by his vice-president Mohammed Waheed Hassan.

Is Nasheed supported or opposed by the USA?

Are his 'Islamic' opponents supported or opposed by the USA?

New president, Waheed Hassan, recognised by the USA.

On 17 February 2012, "Nasheed voiced bitter disappointment ... at the US decision to recognise his successor, who Nasheed suspects of conspiring in his removal from office...

"Nasheed's efforts to force new President Mohamed Waheed to step down received a major blow on Thursday when Washington announced it was conferring a stamp of legitimacy on Waheed's administration."

"Talking about the growing influence of China earlier during the interaction, Hassan said, 'Ultimately we have not signed any agreement since I became President... So I categorically deny that'.

"He said, 'We will respect all the strategic and commercial agreements we have signed with India. This is not to be questioned'.

"Asked how he plans to promote ties with China, Hassan said, 'While President Nasheed was in power, we established a Chinese mission in the Maldives.'"

Steven Argue (The Maldives Coup.) writes of the new dictatorship of Hassan being backed by the USA.

"This U.S. backed coup has reinstalled ministers from the brutal dictatorship of Gayoom, a dictatorship that President Nasheed defeated through decades of activism that included Nasheed's own personal repeated jailings and torture at the hands of the Gayoom dictatorship.

"Through that mass struggle with the support of outlawed trade-unionists, the movement forced the first ever democratic election in Maldives history in 2008, with Naheed defeating Gayoom in that election.

"After the election President Nasheed's government legalized unions...

"He was also working on amending the tax code so that wealthy luxury resort owners would pay more taxes.

"Nasheed's regime, however, also appointed religious extremists to his cabinet and failed to attempt to change laws passed by Gayoom that discriminate against non-Muslims.

"Nasheed ... did three things the U.S. is always against: 1. He supported democracy. 2. He, at least to some degree, supported union rights and better conditions for workers. 3. He took on the global profits of the oil industry (in his case by challenging climate change).

Nasheed

"The conflict between President Nasheed and the judiciary has primarily been one that resulted from the fact that the judiciary continues to be the appointees of the Gayoom dictatorship who refuse to apply the law to Gayoom and his good-old-boy network in regards to corruption and repression...

"President Nasheed has recognized that it was the owners of the luxury resorts and members of the former Gayoom dictatorship who were behind this coup stating, 'The coup was largely financed by resort owners.'

"Asked why, Nasheed responded: 'I suppose they liked the old order of corruption.'

"Those luxury hotel owners are upset by Nasheed’s fairer taxation and legalization of unions..."

"The Maldives has a trafficking problem... As many as 35% of the youth are hooked on drugs.

"Trafficking, as we know, indicates the presence of organized crime...

"If the network has been set up for drugs, it can also be used for humans, for guns, for anything...

"The Maldives is strategically located for the US military and many profitable shipping routes..."

According to Rehmat's World: the ousted president Nasheed was pro-Israel. (Maldives: 'Pro-Israel President booted out' Rehmat's World)

"Nasheed now claims that he was dumped on gunpoint by the pro-Islamist security forces...

The Islamists reportedly accused Nasheed of being in cahoots with Israel and accused Israeli tourists of corrupting the country’s Islamic culture.

"The diplomatic relations between Maldives and the Zionist entity were established in 1965 – but severed by the president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in 1980 who after deposing Sultan Mohamed Farid I, declared the Island nation as a republic.

"The links were re-established on September 25, 2009 by the new president Mohamed Nasheed.

"Israeli military officials were reinvited to train Maldives’ security agencies.

"In 2010, an Islamic group protested against the arrival of Israeli surgeons to work at the government run Indhra Gandhi hospital. They claimed Israeli doctors are notorious in organ harvesting for Israel.

"Nasheed who initially headed a coalition government, later turned into a civilian dictator. He awarded millions of dollars of contracts to his family members and close friends and wealthy supporters."

Usually, both the Islamists, and their opponents, work for the CIA and Mossad.

Mubarak was said to be a friend of Israel and the USA, but he got toppled by the CIA and Mossad.
