NATO TO ARM IRAN?

Remember Iran-Contra?

"Ok so you smell a rat, but maybe the wrong rat.

"Nato needs to strengthen Iran before it leaves Afghanistan.

"It needs Iran to participate in the rounding up and ethnic cleansing process of exiting Afghanistan...

"The function of the Fox Werrity Gould meetings was to discuss how to give Iran a great deal more firepower, to reassure Israel, than it could admit to be doing.

"Hence the secrecy. Werrity is a broker for the vast orders for arms to be placed at Iran’s disposal, and Fox is the broker for the policy of helping Iran."

Gould-Werritty: the Continuing Cover-Up

Iran and Afghanistan

Following the emergence of the Taliban and their harsh treatment of Afghanistan's minorities, Iran stepped up assistance to the Northern Alliance.

Relations with the Taliban deteriorated further in 1998 after Taliban forces seized the Iranian consulate in Mazari Sharif and executed Iranian diplomats.

Following this incident, Iran almost went to war with the Taliban but intervention by the United Nations Security Council and the United States prevented it.

Iran was a key factor in the overthrow of the Taliban in 2001. (Afghanistan–Iran relations a)

According to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) (Iran and the Future of Afghanistan - Council on Foreign Relations):

"Gen. David H. Petraeus ... says Washington and Iran could coalesce around stabilizing Afghanistan.

"Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, echoed the sentiment (PDF) in late January 2009.

"NATO partners, too, have sought to include Iran in Afghan strategy decisions.

"German lawmakers have called for the creation of a 'contact group' of nations to chart a new regional course.

"'Such an initiative, that would include Iran, would benefit if it came to direct talks between Washington and Tehran,'" Andreas Schockenhoff, vice chairman of Germany's Christian Democratic Party, said in a statement reported by German media."
