Klûk CGDT, Deola Sagoe, Flaviana Matata & Tiffany Amber win at the 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Week Awards
It was a glorious end to a very ambitious experiment. 50 designers in one cosmopolitan city – Lagos for one very special event – The 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Week.
The final piece of the fashion pie was the “closing ceremony” which took place on Sunday 13th March 2011. First up, a runway presentation by South African fashion label – Black Coffee, performance by Nigeria’s rap princess – Mo’Cheddah, the presentation of the 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Week Awards and finally a spectacular performance by British-Nigerian music star, Tinie Tempah.
In addition to the fashion awards, 5 designers were chosen to participate in the ARISE Collective Show at the New York Fashion Week in September 2011.
Nigerian designers, Deola Sagoe and EreDappa with veteran Nigerian designer Shade Thomas-Fahm, Mali’s Xuly Bët and South African designers, Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, the creative duo behind fashion brand – Klûk CGDT were recognized for their outstanding contribution to fashion and were announced as the winners of the Lifetime Achievement in Fashion award.
Klûk CGDT also received the Designer of the Year award for 2011 and will also be part of the ARISE Collective Show at New York Fashion Week. Other designers who will be showing in New York include Jewel by Lisa, Bunmi Koko, Tsemaye Binite and Pierre-Antoine Vettorello.
The Model of the Year award went to Tanzanian model, Flaviana Matata. It has been a tremendous few months for Flaviana as she recently landed well-received editorials in L’Officiel Paris, Glass Magazine and the latest issue of ARISE Magazine. Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 winner, Chika Emmanuel won the New Face of the Year award. Tiffany Amber, the label headed by Folake-Folarin-Coker won the Fashion Brand of the Year Award and Ituen Basi who showed the buzzworthy ankara helmets as part of her collection during the AMFW, won the Creative Designer of the Year award, in 2009, the label won the Most Innovative Designer Award at the ARISE Africa Fashion Awards in Johannesburg.
Other award winners include Buki Akib in the Young Designer of the Year category, Maki Oh was chosen as the Emerging Designer of the Year, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello for Innovative Designer of the Year and Angelo Van Mol for Menswear Designer of the Year. Nike Oshinowo-Soleye, ex-beauty queen/entrepreneur received the Style Icon award.
