Who won the war in Gaza?

Livni the terrorist

Mamdouh El-Adl, at Al-Ahram Weekly, 12 - 18 February 2009, asks Who won the war?

Mamdouh El-Adl is a consultant psychiatrist in the UK.

Among the points made:

1. Hamas, was established in 1987 and is related to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hamas runs social programmes and gained popularity by establishing hospitals, education systems, libraries and other services.

2. Israel planned the war on Gaza with four main goals:

1. To end Hamas control.

2. To lift the morale of the Israeli army defeated in the 2006 Lebanon War.

3. Help people like Livni win the Israeli elections.

4. To prepare the stage for the removal of more Palestinians from their land.

3. Israel made the mistake of not following the basic rules of psychological warfare such as:

A. Trying to defeat the enemy without engaging in direct combat.

B. Learning from past experience, such as the loss of public support during the Lebanon conflict.

"It was a huge blow to Israel when public opinion internationally saw the huge damage and civilian casualties caused."

Israel secured a major moral defeat.

4. "Israeli stated aims changed over the time, from ending Hamas, to weakening Hamas, to stopping rockets, to reducing rocket numbers."
