Declassified files show that the FBI believed that Adolf Hitler faked his suicide in 1945.
The files show that for 30 years the FBI tried to keep an eye on 'Hitler'.
FBI agents believed that Hitler may have lived at a ranch in Argentina, at a hotel in Denmark and at a hotel in New York City.
He was "bearded, clean-shaven, suffered from asthma and stomach ulcers," according to FBI informants.
On 21 September 1945, the FBI office in Los Angeles noted: "Hitler and 50 of his closest family landed approximately 10 days after the fall of Berlin in two submarines in southern Argentina. Hitler has grown a beard and is hiding on a ranch."
